I've been trying to get the thumbnails working for the preinstalled smoothgallery extension. I made sure the boxes were checked (Use Thumbs was checked, opacity of thumbnails was set to .6) in the advanced settings in the List view. Do we need to create the thumbnails like we have to do for new templates? All of the pictures show up correctly. They're all 330x330 with the extension set to the same thing.

SmoothGallery and TYPO3 should generate the thumbnails automatically when everything is configured properly.

I would first checking the overall settings for Image Processing within the TYPO3 Install Tool. If these tests are all passing, then it may be a configuration issue within SmoothGallery. If they aren't passing, then that points to something that needs to be address at the TYPO3 and server level.

That made everything work. I went into the basic configuration section of the install tool and had to change TYPO3_CONF_VARS[GFX][TTFdpi] for the right version of Freetype. I am really beginning to love this program.
