Subject: An empty(blank) pagetree
Hallo,

When I heard that for learning of TV I could install the WEC package, I have yesterday installed the wec_starter-4_1_5-1_1_0.tar.gz package without any problem. For this I have followed the installation instructions. But I don't see any page tree so I can't go ahead. Have I missed something or I have to installed more package? Would somebody tell me how I can solve this problem?

With regards,
Nader

Nader,

It sounds like you might have used TYPO3 before. Has TYPO3 been installed on this server before. If not then it might be helpful to run the server checker here:

http://webempoweredchurch.com/gettingstarted/installing/wec_server_checker/

Also, are you confident that all the files made it to your installation? I only ask because this happened before when someone had an incomplete upload.

Yes, I have installed TYPO3 before. Do I have to uninstall the TYPO3 from this server to get the WEC page tree. And about the question "are you confident that all the files made it to your installation?" I don't know. How can I check whether that all files are made!

Nader

Nader,

You should not need to uninstall the old version of typo3 as long as it is in a totally difference account or directory, it is using different symlinks, and you are using a different database. On the files, if you unzipped or "untarred" them on the server and get no errors then you should have them all. The problem usually comes when you upload individually via ftp and the ftp has trouble. Then you can end up with partial and missing files. There is no good way to check unless you manually compare file by file with another install. Also, are you sure the directories that must be writable by apache are set correctly?

Mark

Nader,
I'll throw in one more bit of debugging advice in addition to what Mark said. If you have access to a tool such as phpMyAdmin to check the contents of your database, can you see if the pages table and the tt_content table actually has rows of data in it? Another option would be to bring up "User admin" from the TYPO3 backend and see if a backend user named "basicadmin" exists.

If tables are empty and basicadmin isn't there, then odds are good that you've got an incomplete database import. It could be some SQL related problem, but the most likely cause is that at Step 3 of the 1-2-3 Install Tool only the required tables got imported rather than the full wec_starter.sql. See http://webempoweredchurch.com/gettingstarted/installing/manual/page/16/ for more information.

Thanks,
Jeff
