WEC Testing
Maintaining quality is vital to the success of the WEC mission. Testing is an important part of ensuring quality and is especially difficult because WEC runs on so many different configurations of servers and TYPO3 installations. Therefore, as a tester, you are a vital part of the WEC team. WEC is developing How-Tos to help with training, the WEC Starter Package, website templates, and many ministry extensions. Each needs to be tested as it is initially developed and then tested again when changes are made to it. Testing often includes the following:
- Monitoring posts to the tester forums
- Getting the latest version of software and documentation
- Reading through any associated documentation
- Installing on your web server or locally on your PC running the WEC-TYPO3 Server
- Verifying that the documentation is accurate and descriptive
- Configuring and using the software in many different ways to try to find problems
- Reporting issues found in the documentation or software
- Retesting after corrections are made
Testing can be fun because you get to see the latest features and you can contribute to making WEC even better. It can also cause issues if there are conflicts or bugs in the new software. So, it could impact the operation of your website. You don't need to test everything WEC produces. You can choose what to test.
Getting Started
If you don't already have a WEC account, please register for one by going to the account creation page. WEC has setup private forums just for WEC testers. Your WEC account will need to be granted access to these forums and you will need to login before you can see the tester forums. The forums are private because testing is so important, and we want just those who are truly committed to helping test to participate on these forums. You can get access by reviewing the servant opportunities on the WEC Servant Matcher Page. Check the "Testing" checkbox, then click on the "Match Any Skills" button to list the test-related servant opportunities. Choose one and click the "I am Interested" button. Then fill out the form to sign up. We will review your submittal, give you access to the tester forums, and send you a welcome e-mail.
Please do not register to be a tester if:
- You do not use WEC-TYPO3 on your website
- You only want to get access to the latest pre-release software
- You want more tech support (see the User Community for that)
- You do not intend to actively participate (inactive members may have their access to the tester forums removed)
Instructions
Once you have access, we will send you a welcome e-mail. Please go through these steps:
- Go to the WEC Developer Community. Note: this is the community for developers not the community you typically use for questions related to using WEC.
- If you are not already logged in, please login at the left.
- Verify that you can see the long list of tester forums under the header "Testers." If you do not see this list then please reply to the e-mail and tell us of the problem so we can give you proper access.
- Click on "Profile" at the upper left to edit your forum user profile.
- Check the checkbox to the left of "Tester General Discussion" so you can receive general announcements and general discussions via e-mail. We will make new announcements using this forum.
- Check any other forums that you'd like to receive via e-mail. Each new post on the forums you select will result in an e-mail to you. You will need to return to the forums to post. You do not need to check any boxes, but this helps alert you as soon as new posts are made.
- Click on the submit button. Of course, you can always come back to your profile to modify these settings.
- Please review and monitor the tester forums of interest and follow instructions from the developers when they post there. Please feel free to post questions and comments.
- You can also pick anything in WEC and test it without being prompted.
- Please post any comments, questions, or issues you have to the appropriate forum. The developers will monitor the forums. Please be sure to read the documentation first and initially try to work through issues yourself. Once that is done, if you still need help, please do not hesitate to post to the tester forums. Your question probably indicates an issue.
Thanks
Thanks for joining the WEC team as a tester. We are blessed to serve Jesus Christ with you.
In Christ,
The WEC Team
