Add a New Page - Advanced

There are a variety of ways to add a new page in TYPO3. In this how-to, you will be introduced to three of the most important methods. The first method (Add Page Below) is the most basic, but some users prefer using the Add Page Wizard (the second method). Use whichever method you find the most intuitive.

Method 1: Add Page Below

  1. To begin adding a new page, you must be logged in to the TYPO3 Backend.
  2. Click on the Page Module.
  3. The Page Tree shows the organizational structure of the website. Select a page in the tree where you would like to add a new page. In this case the selection is the About Us page.
  4. Notice the added information that pops up that show the unique page identification number and the text alias that identifies the page.
  5. Click on the page icon next to the page title (About Us is the title in this case).
  6. Clicking on the page icon will display a pop up menu. Select New from the menu.
  7. Now select Page (inside) to add a new page inside the About Us page.
  8. The new page form contains all the main fields for the new page.
  9. First, unhide the page so it will show up on the website. To unhide the page, uncheck the Hide Page checkbox.
  10. The only page field that is required is the Pagetitle. The small yellow square icon with the "!" inside indicates that the field needs to be filled in.
  11. In this example, the page title is Questions. This is a new section that will contain questions people might have about the church and being a Christian.
  12. Enter the page title and then click the Save icon at the top to save the page.
  13. The result is not obvious because the newly created page is inside the About Us page.
  14. Click the + sign to the left of the About Us page to expand this portion of the tree.
  15. This expands the tree and reveals the new Questions page.
  16. If you'd like, you can view the Frontend version of the Questions page in a separate browser window by clicking on the page icon for Questions and selecting Show.
  17. This will cause a second browser window to pop up that will display the page users will see if they go to the Questions page on this website.
  18. This is the page as users would see it.
  19. Notice that the cursor is pointing to show that the Questions page is inside the About Us page in the page tree and the navigation of the website.

Method 2: The Page Wizard

  1. The second way you can add a new page is to use the New Page Wizard.
  2. If you are unsure about which method to use to create a new page, then use this method because it is fast and can create a page anywhere in the page tree.
  3. First click on the page icon to the left of a page.
  4. Select New from the menu.
  5. Click on Click here for wizard! This will take you to the New Page Wizard.
  6. With the wizard, you can locate the page anywhere you would like in the page tree.
  7. Click on an arrorw icon to select the location of the new page.
  8. For this example, the new page is located inside the About Us page like the previous example.
  9. In the New Page Wizard, you are given the option to select a new template for the new page.
  10. Unless you want to change to a different template just click Default Template (marked by a question mark).
  11. If you set the template to Default Template, the page will automatically use the template for the page above and to the left of new page. Pages lower in the page tree automatically inherit the template from pages higher in the page tree.
  12. Enter the Pagetitle. The Pagetitle is a required field.
  13. Notice that, with the New Page Wizard, the default is for the Hide Page option to be unchecked. So, this page will show up on the website immediately.
  14. Click the Save document icon to create the new page.
  15. Once again, the Questions page is located "inside" the About Us page.

Method 3: Page After

  1. A third way of creating a new page is to use Page (after).
  2. This creates a new page immediately below the selected page.
  3. Start by clicking the page icon to the left of the selected page and then choose New.
  4. Scroll down the New recond list and click on the Page (after) link.
  5. Once again, you will need to enter the page's title and save your work.
  6. Notice this time the new page Questions can be found directly "after" the About Us page.
  7. View the page in the Frontend to see the difference in the page's location in the navigation menu.
  8. This completes the Add Page how to training movie.
