Swap a Template

Templates are assigned to a page and the pages inside (under and to the right of the page in the page tree) automatically inherit the template unless a template is assigned to them. A template has two parts, a structure and a design. The structure defines the regions on the page such as two columns or three columns. The design defines the appearance and navigation. If you change structures to a structure with different regions assigned then current page content may not display because it is assigned to an invalid region. This content is not lost, but must be moved to a valid region on the new template before it will display. If you keep the same structure, then the design can be changed any time and the current content will display; however, there still may be some formatting issues as regions and fonts change between different designs. Below are the instructions for changing the template for a page.

1. If you desire to swap your WEC Template with another, login to the TYPO3 Backend.
2. Begin by clicking on the Page Module.
3. Click on the root page's icon (typically the Home Page)
4. Next, click on Edit Page Properties in the drop down menu. (Some browsers may display a menu bar at the top of the TYPO3 screen.)
5. Scroll down the Left Column until the Template Structure and Template Design fields are visible.
6. Select the Template Structure you prefer from the drop down menu or by clicking on a Template Structure's image.
7. Click OK when the alert appears.
8. Clicking OK will reload the page. Scroll back down to the Template Structure and Design fields.
9. Notice that the Use Template Design displays an error message. This indicates that the selected Template Structure will not work with the previous Template Design.
10. Click on your preferred Template Design...either from the drop down menu or on the image itself.
11. Once you've made your selection, scroll to the top or the bottom of the Edit Page Properties form and save your work. When you have done so, your new template will be live on your website's Frontend.
