Understand the Advanced Page (with Search Engine Optimizing Tips)
- You can "create" an Advanced Page in two ways. First, when you create a new page in the Page Tree, and second, when you modify an existing page.
We will look at both methods and then explore the features of the Advanced Page. - To create an Advanced Page in the Page Tree, begin by clicking on the Page Module.
- Select the location where you want to create the new page. Then click on the page icon ABOVE where you want your new page to appear.
When you click on the page icon, the pop-up Page Tree Menu will appear. - Select New from the menu.
- If you want to create a sub-page of Missions, select Page (insde) in the New Record menu.
If you want to create a page AFTER Missions, scroll to the bottom of the New Record menu and select Page After.
For this example, we will create a new page after. - The second method to "create" an Advanced Page is to modify an existing page.
You can do this in either the Page View or the List View Modules or by using the Page Tree Menu. - To modify an existing page, click on the Edit Page Properties icon.
- Regardless of the method you use to create or modify a page, at this point you will have arrived at the Page Form.
- Click on the Type drop-down menu and select Advanced.
- As with all pages, you need to give your page a Pagetitle. However, to optimize your page for Search Engine Placement, your page's title should be descriptive.
- Although a long page title is good for Search Engines, TYPO3 uses the Pagetitle by default for website navigation. A long page title isn't helpful for your website users, so TYPO3 offers the opportunity to use a shorter name in the Alias text field. These titles should be brief and optimally have no spaces or special characters if you use multiple words (use _ or - between words if desired).
- Within TYPO3, the long page title will be used in the Bread Crumb navigation, which could be cumbersome. To create a more workable title, scroll down to the Navigation Title field and add a short name for the page.
Note that TYPO3 will remove spaces between words, so for best results either use one word, separate words with - or _, or use title capitalization (CapitalLettersForEachWord). - The Abstract field is used by the TYPO3 Menu/Site Map extension. An abstract describes the page in a site map so users have a better idea whether the information they're looking for will be found on a particular page or not.
The abstract is a TYPO3 field and is not accessed by Search Engines. - The Keyword field will fill the Keyword Metatag on your page. This is used by many search engines. Do not repeat the same word repeatedly. If you will be including the name of your church or ministry, you may want to include common misspellings. Separate each word or phrase with a comma. For best results, include at least 25 different words/phrases.
- The Description field is another metatag container. It will populate the Description Metatag on your webpage. Your desciption should be fairly short, but should include some of the Keywords and words from the Pagetitle as well. Limit the length to about 100 characters or so.
- As always, make sure you save the changes once you are done. These changes will be available on the website immediately. However, changes in your site's Search Engine placement could take several months.
