Understand the Backend Content Area Clipboard

Use the clipboard to copy or move either records or files. For this example we'll open the Filelist to move some image files, but you can use this tool on any of the forms that include a Clipboard.

  1. From the Backend, click on Filelist, and then click on a directory name in the tree.
  2. Note the list of files on the right side of the screen.
  3. Suppose you want to either copy or move a record or two or three. TYPO3 lets you move multiple records and files easily using the Clipboard.
  4. Begin by enabling the clipboard by clicking Show Clipboard check box at the bottom.
  5. Scroll down and see that there is a "Normal" Clipboard plus three numbered Clipboards. The "Normal" Clipboard is the one that holds one item that you've "Copied" or "Cut" within your browser.
  6. The numbered Clipboards are unique to TYPO3 and each can hold multiple items at one time.
  7. We'll use Clipboard #1 to copy three of the .GIF image files from the list above. Click on Clipboard #1.
  8. Scroll up and see the additional check boxes next to the files.
  9. Check the check boxes next to files you want to move then click on the icon above that looks like two pages.
  10. Scroll down and see the items in clipboard.
  11. By clicking on the dropdown menu, you can  easily decide whether you want to move the contents on the clipboard from one location to another, or whether you want to copy the contents and leave the original in it's place.
  12. Whenever there is an item on a TYPO3 Clipboard, this icon will appear within any table where you are allowed to paste the copied record. Click on the icon to perform the paste operation.
  13. Since we don't want multiple copies of the same file in this directory, we'll simply click on the Cancel button.
  14. To remove items from the clipboard, click on the Remove Item "X" box to the right of each item on the clipboard.
  15. By opening up additional clipboards, you can easily move or copy multiple records/files to multiple locations.
