Understand the Backend Content Area in Page View

  1. To view the Page Content area, click on the Page module and select a page to work with.
  2. This is the "Content Area" of the Page View (this is the rightmost part of the screen centered and expanded for this tutorial).
  3. The content area shows how the Content Elements are arranged on the page. Each content element is assigned to a region in your website template.
  4. The tabs across the top of the content area allow you to see additional details. Click on Advanced Functions.
  5. The Advanced Functions tab allows you to see elements that would otherwise be hidden. It also allows you to view the page as an outline and clear the Page or Frontend Caches.
  6. Click on the Non-used elements tab.
  7. The Non-Used Elements tab displays Content Elements and other records that are not being used in the current page. You can delete them or move them to a region on this page or on another page.
  8. Elements will show up here if you change templates and the regions on the templates have different names.
  9. Click on Non-Used Elements again to hide these extra items.
  10. Click on the Edit icon in one of the Content Elements.
  11. This is a spartan view of a Content Element. In this view, some of the options are hidden. To view these options, click on the Properties icon to the right of the field. These additional options will appear within the field.
  12. Now select the Show secondary options checkbox to enable the secondary options throughout the flexform.
  13. Notice the abundance of visible options when the Secondary Options are enabled.
  14. There is additional information available in each field that has a Contextual Help icon (the octogon question mark icon). Click on one of the contextual help icons to view the additional information.
  15. Next, click on the Text tab to look at the Rich Text Editor (generally referred to as the RTE).
  16. Notice you have lots of editing options including ordered and unordered lists (numbers and bullets), text alignment, tables, and images.
  17. Scroll down and click the Disable RTE checkbox.
  18. Notice that when you click the OK box, you are both disabling the RTE and saving whatever changes you've made to the Content Element.
  19. Click Ok.
  20. The RTE is replaced with a text box that contains HTML. With the Rich Text Editor disabled, there are no formatting options, but you have direct control of the HTML tags.
  21. Uncheck the Disable Rich Text Editor selector box.
  22. Exit editing the Content Element by clicking on the Close Document "X" icon to exit without saving any recent changes you've made.
  23. This returns you to the main content area in the Page view.
