Upload Files Using FTP

In this tutorial, learn how to upload large files using the WEC recommended FTP Client FireFTP (available as a free add-on with the Firefox browser). The instructions include how to get the FireFTP add on, as well as how to configure it and use it to upload files.

  1. You must first download and install the Firefox browser on your computer (www.Firefox.com).
  2. Once Firefox has been installed, click on Tools in the menu bar, and select Add-ons from the dropdown list.
  3. Click on the Get Add-ons tab and then search for FireFTP.
  4. Select the FireFTP add-on (NOT FireFTP Button) and click the Add to Firefox button. When it has downloaded, click on the Install Now button.
  5. Restart Firefox.
  6. Once again, open the Tools menu. Select FireFTP from the list.
  7. You will need to create a new account to use FireFTP. In the New Account dialog box, add the host name (your domain name without http:// or www prefixes), and your your login and password (WEC Hosting clients: this is the same as your cPanel login information).
  8. Click Okay and then click on the Connect button.
  9. The right screen will display your online directories and the left screen will display your local computer directories.
  10. In the right screen, navigate to the public_html/fileadmin directory.
  11. Click Edit in the FireFTP menu bar and click the Connection tab.
  12. Click on the Use Current button to the right of the Remote field and then click Okay. This will allow the online connection to automatically open the /fileadmin folder in the future.
  13. To upload a file, navigate to the file you want to upload in the left screen and in the right screen, open the destination folder.
  14. Highlight the file on the left screen and click on the upload icon arrow.
  15. When the file has been uploaded, click on the Column View Icon (top right) in the right screen and enable Properties.
  16. Right click on the uploaded file's Attributes and select Properties.
  17. Enable permissions to Read, Write, and Execute for Owner, Group, and Public (777).
  18. You will now be able to fully access and use the file within your TYPO3 backend.
