WEC Server Checker

The WEC Server Checker runs on a web server and checks the web-server environment to identify its suitability to execute the WEC Starter Package. The WEC Server Checker examines server characteristics such as availability of memory, installed software, versions of software, and configuration settings.

Installation:

  1. Obtain the WEC Server Checker script. It is just one file named "wec_servercheck.php." The file can be downloaded from the downloads link below.
  2. Edit the file "wec_servercheck.php" to add your database location, username, and password to enable the WEC Server Checker to check your server's database as well. This information will not be displayed or otherwise accessible, and is only used to test the database connection.
  3. Upload the file to your web server and place it in the directory where you have or plan to have TYPO3 installed. This is usually the root directory for your web files. This directory is often called ""www" or 'public_html."
  4. Make sure the file itself and the directory it is located in are both writable and readable by the Apache web server. This is usually not an issue, and you can go ahead and try it without hurting anything. Error messages will display if the WEC Server Checker cannot read or write properly.

Run the WEC Servant Checker:

  1. Use your browser to run the WEC Server Checker. Go to the web address in the format below (with your actual domain and path entered):

    www.yoursite.com/directory-you-uploaded-the-file-to/wec_servercheck.php

  2. Follow the instructions provided in the output from the WEC Server Checker. The displayed instructions will tell you how the server is configured. If anything on the server needs to be changed, the WEC Server Checker will help identify it and will help instruct you on making the needed changes. In some cases, these changes must be made by your hosting company. In many cases, little or no changes are required.
  3. If you are unsure about the output from the WEC Server Checker, you can post to the WEC community forums. On the forum called "Installing (WEC Starter Package)," you can post the results from the WEC Server Checker or a link to cause the WEC Server Checker to run on your server. Members of the WEC Community can then look at the output and help you through the process.

It is important that the issues found by the WEC Server Checker are addressed in order for you to fully benefit from the features in the WEC Starter Package, and in some cases, it may not run at all until changes are made. In most cases, the WEC Starter Package can run on up-to-date Linux, Apache, MySQP, and PHP (LAMP) based web servers. In our experience, low-cost hosting companies are the biggest challenge because they tend to eliminate or minimize more features.
