Local Demo Package for PCs with Windows Only

In normal operation, the WEC Starter Package software is installed on a web server on the public internet and accessed using only a standard browser from your computer connected to the internet. The Local Demo Package allows you to run the same web-server software locally on your computer.

This Local Demo Package install file is designed for rapid and easy installation to support WEC testing and learning on your PC. It contains a fully-functional web server with the WEC Starter package pre-installed and ready to run.

The installation contains:

  • Apache 2.0.63
  • PHP 5.2.10
  • MySQL 5.0.41
  • Perl 5.8
  • TYPO3 4.4.2
  • WEC Starter Package
  • The web server software and packaging is based on Server2Go.

This installation is designed for personal use on your local computer. It is not setup or secured for use on the public Internet as a public web server. Please do not use this installation as a public web server. Also, this installation does not support e-mail features such as user registration and prayer messages.

System Requirements:

  • A PC running Microsoft Windows XP, Vista or 7
  • Approximately 350 MB of disk space (zip file + unzipped files)
  • PCs with lower memory and processor speed should be able to run the software, but it may execute slowly.

To Install:

  1. Create a folder on drive C called c:\wec. If you prefer a different location for storing the files then that is fine too. Any folder will work as long none of the folder names in the full path contain spaces. Unfortunately, spaces in folder names disable the graphics processing software and the website statistics software.
  2. Click on the "WEC-TYPO3 Server Zip File" link at the bottom of this page to download the zip file
  3. Unzip the files into the newly-created directory (c:\wec). This zip file contains the many files and directories needed to run a web server and WEC-TYPO3.
Attention Microsoft Vista Users: To speed the unzip dramatically, before you attempt to unzip the file, right click on the zip file and select "Properties." Then click on the "Unblock" button at the bottom of the window.
  4. That's it!

To Uninstall:

  1. Delete the server directory you created to store the files.
  2. That's it! This install does not create any special installation files or Windows registry entries.

Running and Stopping:

  1. Go to the server directory and run Start.exe. This will start the server software, will briefly display a startup screen, and your browser should display the home page from the WEC Starter Package sample website. If your browser does not come up automatically, please start a web browser and enter localhost for the web address. Below are all the web addresses, usernames, and passwords.

    Website: localhost
    TYPO3 Backend: localhost/typo3/
Administrator - username: admin and password: wec
Simplified Administrator - username: basicadmin and password: wec
Simplified Content Editor - username: basicuser and password: wec
    Install Tool - password: wec
    PHPMyAdmin: localhost/phpmyadmin/ (not typically needed)

Note: Some firewall software on your computer may block your browser from connecting to the Local Demo web server. You may need to disable it while you run this software or you can manually add a rule to allow in-bound port 4001 communications.

  2. While the server is running, you will see a new round icon at the lower right of your screen in the system tray. If you move your mouse pointer over the icon then the popup text will say, "WEC Local Demo."
  3. Even though you may exit your browser, the server will continue to run on your computer. When you are done using the server you should right click on the icon in the system tray and select "Shutdown server." If the icon in the system tray is gone then the server is not running. You can also reboot your computer to stop the WEC Local Demo web server.

Desktop Icon:

  • If you'd like to create an icon on your desktop to run the server, first, open the file explorer and go to the server directory.
  • Hold down the ALT key, then click on the Start.exe file, drag it to your desktop, and release the mouse button.
  • This will create an icon on your desktop that runs Start.exe when you click on it.
  • You can rename the icon (change the words below it) by right clicking on the icon, selecting "rename" then entering the new name in the icon name field.
