Web-Empowered Church Day-Long Workshops

Description

Specific times may vary, but all the Web-Empowered Church Day-Long Workshops follow a common format. The first part of the day teaches you how to create a powerful internet ministry. The instruction follows the 11 chapters of Mark Stephenson's book, Web-Empower Your Church: Unleashing the Power of Internet Ministry. The outline is:

  1. Decide on Web Ministry
  2. Build a Team
  3. Create Content
  4. Plan to Serve People
  5. Create a Style
  6. Learn Web Technology Basics
  7. Graphics and Media
  8. Get on a Web Server
  9. Add Online Community
  10. Add Web Ministry Tools
  11. Web-Empowered Church

The second part of the day is hands-on training where you can create a website using the Web-Empowered Church software. Some training locations have computers for attendees, but most workshops depend on attendees bringing a laptop computer with the WEC-TYPO3 Server software pre-installed on it. (See below for information on how to prepare a laptop for the training.) You do not need to bring a laptop to benefit from this portion of the workshop. If you come with one or more other people, you may want to share a laptop. Or you can just watch the training on the large screen and learn that way. If you don't have a laptop, are new to computers, or slower at using computers, we recommend just watching this portion, and you will be directed to online resources that will guide you through the same training on your own later and at your own pace. People learn differently and have different computer skills, so please just do what you are comfortable with.

The second part of the workshop is based on the WEC 101 class, which is available as a PDF document and a series of animated Flash Movies.  These resources are available to you to help you learn more about using WEC at any time.

Setting Up a Laptop for the Workshop

Before you come to the workshop, please download and install the newest WEC-TYPO3 Server on your laptop and verify that it runs correctly. For specific instructions please go to one of the following links and please read all the instructions.

If you are hosting a workshop, please see the Workshop Host Page for additional instructions.
