Hi Since one month we are preparing for big training session on 5 Locations with about 50 people each. As it is a TYPO3 Training and we wanna fascinate people for TYPo3 and keep frustrations away from them, it is oriented and mostly based on WEC-Server and WEC-Starter/T3Pack-Packages setup in a TYPO3Winstaller / WOS or VirtualBox Setting. We have put all classes, in a big .pdf File and linked each HowTo from the Index and of course back to the index. We also added some own Tutorial Materials with Graphics as we don't have .swf files for them. Next we have put all over 120 Flashclasses into a impress presentation. This makes it easier to number all .swf according to the numbering in the Class Book PDF. Also they show up pretty good on the screen without using a browser. Our First experiences in a Testtraining with the WEC Classes: As the WEC Classes consist of many flash files they are good for selflearners, but they are not very handsome fo a guided training. It takes very long time to click the .swf files inside the impress presentations. It is the same with the 1.2.3 Step HowTos. They are very good for selflearning - not very handsome for guided trainings - as you can work much more efficient showing those steps live without everybody reading those steps. Your learners should concentrate on the trainer and what he presents and not be clued to the black and white letters of the 1.2.3 steps. Keep them for repeating those steps at home. Solution: We created a Powerpoint Presentation as a Course Book. It looks more then a workbook and has got also questions for checking in it. Parallel to this course book the presenter/trainer(s) will work alongside using mostly LIVE settings, based on the WEC-Starter/T3Pack Package. Powerpoints can be setup very efficient for learning content. They summarize the actions of the trainer and will be shown on a second screen just beside the Live presentation of the trainers. Very similar to the presentation extension but LIVE. And LIVE is here VERY important as only in a LIVE setting the students can really participate and share and a trainer will be able to help. Most students are learning best when they produce errors or see how errors get solved by others. A videoDVD or a wec_presentation can't reproduce this very important "live-feature". Another very important "live-feature" can't be reproduced in a self-learn surrounding. It is the "learning by teaching feature". If you start teaching others, you will learn most of what you are just doing. Therefore LIVE session are very very important. Using modern technology those LIVE sessions could be also made by using ITC Innovations like Desktop-Sharing, Chat, Whiteboard, Video Conferencing. Training Sessions could be held in multinational and even multicontinental classes - of course LIVE! "Help to do it by myself" Maria Montessori - is our goal even in TYPO3 Trainings. We have setup a local Ubuntu Server (for online LIVE Training Sessions we are using an US or German Server) and all Participants are working on it. At any time we can switch a site to the projector (or LIVE to the desktop-sharing screen) and everybody can participate and share his experiences. Of course all participants have to do also some homework (selfstudy and teamwork in virtual projects, and they like it!) Here most of them are using the WEC Class Materials .pdf if they get stuck. They us it like a Handbook. For them (our testers) it was very important that the howtos were put together into one searchable .pdf and cross linked to index/howtos/and .swf file (here we are using the online files on the webempoweredchurch site. This way also people who have only the .pdf can join the .swf tutorials from wec) For those who haven't got an internet or no fast connection they can use the .swf impress presentations. Problem since 4.2.1 is right now that we have to overwork most of it as the Backend has changed a lot - so the single steps and the .swf files. It took us until now already over 1 month to setup the 5 day Training Courses and the process is still going on. After we have finished our Training Sessions in September I will be able to share more experiences. We will also be able to offer others valuable training sessions with our training-teams. Simply get in contact with us! Teaching the quintessence of TYPO3 is very important. Like said before Joomla can't even reach the water to TYPO3 but people are using it as it is a click and use solution without much thinking and required own knowlegde about the system at all. We figured even in our Test Trainings out that TYPO3 is even easier then Joomla if the people get taught the right way with a running system like WEC-Starter, T3S or T3Pack. And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. (Luke 11:9-10) Important >> If we don't ask, seek, knock - we probably won't even see an open door. Greetings from ICT Innovation Paradise Andi |

Hi David Right now we don't know! As we don't get supported by an Organisation, we have to earn our own income with our works. So the Part we're just workin' on might be on sale or used by our trainers (which means will be available for those who train with us) afterwards. The other Part (the PDF Handbook) is already Open document Licence from WEC, so everybody can use it and perhaps we could work on this to make it a real Self-Learners-Handbook together. Think about it! But first of all our goal is to train about 250 people in TYPO3 and then see how it worked out. I am pretty sure we will need to work on the complete material during the training too to make it even better. There is also an effort on TYPO3.org right now to produce video-tutorials in German and English. It might be interesting for your to. The peargroup to reach will be editors. Have a look here: typo3.org/documentation/videos/tutorials-v4/ God bless you Andi [This article was edited 1 times, at last 27.06.2008 at 10:34.] |

Andi, Thanks for sharing your experiences. Here is some of what we have tried and learned recently. Over the last five months I have conducted 5 all-day workshops that teach TYPO3. I have a general presentation about internet ministry and then we begin learning TYPO3 starting with WEC 101. We print out the document for everyone so they have that available if they would like to follow along. We then use the Flash-only version to teach. Before the class we put the WEC-TYPO3 Server on every computer in the room. I also keep a local copy of the WEC-TYPO3 Server running. Most of the time we just walk through the Flash How-Tos in WEC 101. But sometimes I jump to the live version if there is a question that does not match the Flash. I like the Flash approach because: 1. It looks like live screen shots 2. Anyone can teach this and students get the same information 3. Even inexperienced teachers can use this approach if they can read the yellow boxes fast enough. 4. It encourages people to use our training to learn more on their own in the future or to show others how to learn WEC-TYPO3 via the tutorials. This approach is not perfect but it is the best we have come up with so far especially since we need for people to be able to self train, and we need more of us to be able to lead a training. Of course, we have the 4.2 user interface issue you mention. We need to update all our how-tos. As a result, on the last workshop I taught them 4.1.7 and then told them the differences in 4.2 by going through this How-To. That was not the best, but I did not have much choice at the time. All in all, this approach seems to be working for us, but we are always looking at ways to improve so we appreciate the information. In Him, Mark |
even still, what if we could come up with easy to understand tutorials, and do this on a grass roots level. I am a new user, and somewhat a novice at webdesign. Can we organize a task force group to begin talking about what is needed and see what we can come up with? Jason, Maybe you can start by just listing what is needed here. Are you thinking about basic computer skill training? In my experience, this has been an issue. You can't really use our trainings if you don't know how to use a web browser, keyboard, and mouse. So that is harder. I have been wondering about maybe recommending Video Professor or something. In Him, Mark |

David. If your hosting with Vine - we can assist here as well. We have the ability to provide a staff training via the web. If you are not - we can still assist with training - however there would be a cost involved. I will see what can be done also about making some of those training documents a few churches we have helped available (at least I can ask them...) In Service to the Kingdom, Glenn Kelley |

Hi Mark You are absolutly right about the quality and usability of the flashs. I like them too As you know we are training people in Thai, Chinese and preparing for Lao, Vietnamese, Malay, Burmese, Indonesian ... too. Unfortunately most participants beside the Malaysian are very poor in English profeciency. The other major problem is the way of dealing with problems and solutions in these countries. It is often not like we do it as "farang" "caucasians" "westerner" how they call us here! Some of our "editors" need computerskills - OK we solved this problem easily by using the ICDL or ECDL Program based on OpenOffice, which has already been translated into many languages. We have very good experiences with that. There are also Free Lessons online available. de.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Computer_Driving_Licence www.ecdl.com/publisher/index.jsp www2.icdlus.com/icdlus-lms-webclient/Welcome.do;jsessionid=1495077E84574E83D26239E139F21FF4 I guess that we could setup TOGETHER something like this: https://www.videoprofessor.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=shoppingCart.landingPage&campaignname=LC_roiCourseInfo&pathelementid=124&pathid=8&pagenum=2&subsectionid=0&courseid=201&mov=0&CFID=14477108&CFTOKEN=b585a7c9f666c1d7-CCF48240-BCD6-A209-DCB87E38ED965FAF for WEC. I am working at the moment together with THE University for Animation Technology and Elearning Materials in Asia here in Thailand and perhaps WEC could think about running projects together with them to produce those elearning stuff. They are pretty good here and it would be a great field to minister too. i.e. Hope Bangkok is growing every week with lots of new believers - mainly students from universities! As we (our company) will also soon be located in a University here in Phuket it would be a great chances to get TYPO3, Internet Ministry and more running. People here are very very interested to learn and when they do something they believe in you really can rely on them and they like working in teams. Have a look also here: www.actden.com/ (free lessons) people here like things like this - they like to entertain people like in a show. And well, they do quite good in learning thru this style. Dialogues Questions and Answers on the stage and in between sessions of repetition and rehearsal for the audience. Of course getting along with lots of fun and laughter. To perform courses like this for a greater audience (could be even 100 or more) it needs a well trained Trainer-UNIT. 2 or more people ACTING actively while doing the training in dialogues. Try it, even it is not easy to setup, you will have great fun together - i.e. start with the PowerPoint Lesson 2007. Perhaps you could even motivate some kids with IT skills from your churches doing this for the grannies in your community (those over 30 For acting teaching performances you would need at least 4 people. Sue Special speaking the orange Jim Jingle speaking the green Prof Threepio speaking the black (Name coming from here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C-3PO) a Narrator/Presenter we call him of course R2-D2 (Name coming from here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R2-D2) working with a projector (his eye) to show the screenshots and steps on a projector screen - he can talk out of the off or even be designed like R2-D2 on the stage hosting the projector (or from the backgroud - the great unknown We are also using Noty Wan Knowloby: (you might guess where the name comes from He is responsible for all those tiny NOTES Parts and he is using his Lightsaber (A Laser Pointer) to point out these Notes on the screen.) >> We have chosen Starwars as my sons are called Anakin, Sky Bird, our dog Walker and On Eagle's Wings << You can choose of course other names Something like this for WEC would be the greatest gift you could make for churches I guess! People - young and old love it to be entertained. And for sure they will perform it like a christmas play! If somebody has interest to write something like this up for WEC please get in contact so we can collaborate online to setup all those dialogues using google-docs. We - TEAM3 - from LisAndi Co. Ltd. would be glad to organise and manage such a project under the hood of WEC. Lateron all Powerpoints, Dialogs could be shown right from the internet using those google-docs collaborational tools. Google provides everything we would need to build up a global teaching technology learning space for WEC. Here another valuable resource for FREE! and high Quality alison.com/ Jesus taught in terms of parables and proverbs. Why don't we follow? The Gospel of Matthew 13:34 confirms his use of parables: "Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable." In teaching the parables, scholars have classified them into main groups according to the different forms in which they appear. For example, of these groups are similitude stories, extended metaphor, and allegories. Jesus was one of the greatest teachers. He knew that teaching by examples and teaching by acting it out and demonstrating it will have the biggest impact on learners. Let's start! Ok - that's it for now - need to work something Enjoy your weekend and think about our TEAM3 Idea setting up Active ACTING Training Lessons for WEC. Andi |

Hi Mark, and others, Of course thinking globally English is the Esperanto for websites. However if we switch over from our current site www.ebg-hetbaken.nl to the WEC system, we need to do a lot of translation to Dutch. Maybe I will translate the total website to Dutch before stripping. Or is there already a Dutch version ? Regards, Fred http://my.vision-4-life.nl |
