Difficulty accessing edit sections without a work around

 In the last couple of weeks when I have been editing in the backend, and I switch to a new page to edit that new page does not come up, but the edit section for the page I am leaving does. It seems that no amount of clicking on Page and the Name of the page I want to edit seems to help. I get the same result of the edit section of the Page I am leaving. My work around is to click on the folder or page icon I want to go to, when the list comes up I click on Edit, then the edit section for the icon will appear on the right hand side of the screen. Then when I click on Page and the Page Title I will now get the edit section for that page. This is happening each time I want to change pages to edit.
This all started after I had received a few of the pink box notices that I need to check my connection to the internet. My connection has been fine. I notice when I am trying to click to change pages I get a flash of a small pink box. Not sure what all this means.
Any suggestions as to what I may have done to deserve this agony? Is there a fix?
