I have this from a person who wants access to some sermons on our site. "I have wanted to download to my ipod your sermon series on "The 24 hours that changed the world" but have been unable to facilitate the downloads on the RMUMC.com website."
Is there some process we can offer so he can access these sermons?
Grace & peace,
Don

First question: Have you tried setting up the RSS feed for your sermons? It takes some configuration, but that RSS feed is the same as setting up a podcast link. The directions are in the sermon documentation. http://typo3.org/documentation/document-library/extension-manuals/wec_sermons/current/

You can also tweak the TYPO script for that plugin to allow an option to either listen online or download the file, but I'd have to do some digging to find that. That question may be on these forums still, but I don't know for sure. It was a couple of years ago so also might not have made the transition.

My recommendation would be to try to do both. The first option would let people subscribe to your podcast. The second would let people visiting the site choose whether to listen online or download for later listening.

Oh, and that RSS / podcast link that gets set up will work with any player capable of consuming a podcast. You can submit it to Apple if you want, but that makes it unusable to the portion of the world that doesn't use an "i" device. I just set up a podcast link and let people choose what device they wanted to use from there.

Thanks, Peter. I did a search using "download sermons" and some of your previous comments looked helpful, as well. The fact remains that I need to learn this as I do it - way more guts than talent!
I would like to set up our site so we can provide sermon offerings similar to the example on the left of this link:

Is there enough information in classes and tutorials, and the forum, so I can get that done?

Definitely possible to get them to look that way, but that's _far_ beyond me. We went this far and stopped for now:
http://themountonline.com/media - click the "audio" link

I tweaked the TYPOscript to make sure that Download and Play went together, but that was as far as I needed. I set up the RSS feed (docs should be good there) and just changed my "Podcast" link to be a virtual link, hidden in menu, pointing to that URL w/ code for the RSS instead of trying to work out the actual link. My only problem after that was that my Zune software stopped recognizing the RSS if I put too much text in the description. I never did get a good answer to help fix that issue. I ended up just truncating the description text completely and it works. icon_frown.gif It showed up fine when viewing source, but wouldn't be treated as valid XML without the text truncated. Even now I can't seem to submit the URL to Zune without issues, though I can paste it into my Zune Podcast area without a problem.
