Upgrade TYPO3 4.1 to 4.2 - Step 4 - Update the Database and Settings
This upgrade requires changes to the database and TYPO3 settings.
- Login to your site's TYPO3 Backend (http://youWebAddressHere.org/typo3). Once you login, you will likely see a big, yellow warning box telling you that you've updated TYPO3, but haven't updated your databases.
- Click on the Install Module and login by supplying the Install password.
- Click on the Update Wizard link.
- In most installations there will be three boxes below, each with a "Next" button. The three titles are usually: changeCompatibilityVersion, removeNotInMenuDoktypeConversion, and mergeAdvancedDoktypeConversion.
- Skip past changeCompatibilityVersion and start with the the others first. For each of these boxes, click on the "Next" button and click the "Perform updates!" button. You should see a page that includes with the words "Update successful!" on it. Click on "3: Update Wizard" for the next box.
- Once only the changeCompatibilityVersion box remains, click on the "Next" button. Check all the check boxes except for "Show database queries performed" at the end. And click the "Perform updates!" button. You should see a page that returns with the words "Update successful!" on it.
Note: After this upgrade is complete, your text content may need some minor corrections due to these changes. - Next, you need to update the website database for the new version of TYPO3. To do this, click on the Database Analyzer.
- Next, scroll down to the Update Required Tables link and click on "COMPARE". This will compare the databases and suggest changes.
- Scroll to the bottom again and click "Write to Database." Although you may see many messages such as the ones on this screen, your databases have been updated and you can safely ignore these. This list is caused by database differences in various extensions as they have been updated. They don't hurt anything.
